I missed it by a day, but May 15 2026 marks 10 years since I've been reading in Japanese. Most of that has been via light novels & manga, but after passing the 1000 book mark a couple years ago I've been pretty burnt out. Over the past 6 months I've been able to get some of that enthusiasm back by focussing on eroge, a medium I've historically kind of avoided. Turns out if I ignore the usual recs and focus on genres that appeal to me, there's actually a lot out there to enjoy. I'm looking forward to see what I'll discover over the next 10 years!
パンドラの夢 / Pandora no Yume
Cute little time loop story. Don't expect a complex mystery with lots of twists and red herrings, but if you like shorter stories and are looking for a straightforward mystery with some bittersweetness thrown in this is a fun way to spend a few afternoons.
I do recommend playing the Dreamcast version so you can read the epilogues. They're not long but they help flesh out the endings a bit more.
電波的な彼女 / Denpa teki na Kanojo
The murder plot took so long to get going I was starting to think the author forgot about it. Honestly I was more interested in whatever the serial children's-eyeball-gouger was doing in the background. What's going on with public safety in this town? Apparently the second book deals with that case so maybe I'll pick it up out of morbid curiosity
宇宙快盗ファニーBee / Uchuu Kaitou Funny Bee
Suzuki Noritaka's art is always a treat. Unfortunately I found the writing painfully unfunny and dry, especially whenever one of the characters decided to start a physics lesson. I also found the music grating and repetitive due to each tracks' short length. I do want to do some Bunnytector fanart at some point though.
