My Rakuen OST arrived today. While I enjoyed the game itself, the music was definitely the highlight for me. I think while most BGM acts to supplement a game, Rakuen's soundtrack is adamant to stand on its own - and isn't afraid to steal your attention at times. Muraji Yu-ta summed it up best in the liner notes:

これはホントにヒドイ話なんだけど、BGMを依頼するのに、僕は作品の内容を一切説明しなかった。初めの打ち合わせで「得意のギターで好き勝手に曲を書いてよ。こっちも好き勝手に使うから」とか言った。こんなデタラメな発注、この作品以外ではまず成立しない。だからこの曲たちは、初めから作品に合わせて作られたBGMじゃない。曲が作品世界を作り出してるんだ。
