My favourite type of media is the creator/design story, where the characters come together to create something - be it a novel, game, manga, doujinshi, etc. My second favourite type is "meta" stories that focus on the otaku experience. Note: I haven't read all of these through to the end, as I ended up dropping some of them partway through, so this list isn't necessarily indicative of quality... also, the works listed here are ones where creative/otaku themes are central to the story.
